Hand wood carving in the Anatolia region of Turkey has been an art form for centuries. This craft survived the rise and fall of Ottoman rule and continues to be passed down from generation to generation today. When we first discovered local craftsmen applying traditional techniques, we were blown away by their time-honoured methods and impeccable attention to detail.
Handless Timber Trough
Artisan bakers originally used these timber troughs to prepare bread dough before baking at the village hearth. Years of age and functional use has enhanced the character of the wood, which ranges from a lighter distressed finish to a darker, charcoal-tinged tone. Whether planted out or serving aromatic bread, they lend their authentic and earthy character to a multitude of applications.
